Harry was born to John Mangnall (GM109) and Alice (GM110) on the 19th August 1873 in Hindley. He was baptised on the 7th September of the same year at All Saints Church in Hindley.

The 1881 census shows that Harry (Henry) was an 8 year old scholar living with his family at 9 Swan Lane, Hindley.

By the time of the 1891 Census Harry was working as a coal miner along with most of his older brothers. His mother had recently died and the family were living at 113 Corner Lane, Hindley.

The 1901 Census shows that he was a “Coal Miner Hewer” living with his father and step mother at 286 Leigh Road, Hindley.

Harry married Hannah Johnson, daughter of Thomas Johnson, on the 28th June 1902 at All Saints Church in Hindley.

He left home to travel to New Zealand in September 1904 on the S.S.Oldenburg with his brother James. His brother Walter had already travelled to there in November 1902 on S.S. Warrigal (Prt.B, Fiche 691, Pg 001) and had settled in Hamilton. We think that Harry died in Hamilton in the 1930s following an accident.

Thanks to Jacquie Marsden for supplying me with some of this information.
