Emily Jane Mangnall was born to William Mangnall (GM145) and Harriet(t) (GM146) 1857 in Chorley, Lancashire (RoB Chorley 1857 Q3 V.8c p.367). According to the Vital Records Index (VRI) she was christened on the 2nd August 1857 at St George’s, Chorley .

The 1861 Census shows that Emily was 3 years old living with her parents at Cowling in Chorley.

The 1871 Census shows that Emily was a 14 year old working as a cotton weaver. She was living with her family at 259 Lyons Lane in Chorley.

Emily Jane was married to Henry Leaver (FM255) on the 24th Jan 1878 at St George’s (VRI and RoM Chorley 1878 Q1 V.8c p.577). According to the 1881 census they were living at 125 Market Street in Chorley, just up the road from Emily’s sister Hannah. At this stage they had two children:-

  • William, born about 1878;
  • Ernest, born about 1879.

Henry was a carpenter and joiner.
