Fred was born in 1887 in the Bury area, Lancashire. His parents were Ralph Magnall (FM034) and Elizabeth Howarth.

In the 1891 Census Fred was living with his family at 8 Tenterfield (Edenfield Rd), Norden. The family were at 26 New Road in Norden by the time of the 1901 Census and Fred was working as a Flannel Raiser.

Fred died in the Littleborough area in 1951 aged 64 (Littleboro’ 1951 Q4 10d 94 age 64).
