Mary Ann was born on the 14 October 1875 to William Magnall (GM076) and Mary Ann (HM060). Mary Ann was christened on the 11 January 1876 at Holy Trinity Church in Habergham Eaves, the register records that they were living on Burnley Lane and that William was a miner.
At the time of the 1881 Census, Mary Ann was 5 years old and described as a scholar. She was living with her parents and two older siblings at 6 Marles Street in Burnley.
By 1891 at the time of the 1891 Census Mary Ann was a 15 year old cotton weaver living with her parents at 26 Cobden Street.
Mary Ann married Henry Wigglesworth in 1896 (RoM Burnley 1896 Q1 V.8e p.382) but have yet to confirm where.
The 1901 Census shows that a Harry Wigglesworth (32) and Mary A Wigglesworth (26) with their children Walter (4) and Ida (2) were boarders at 19 Cobden Street, the home of Mary A Magnall (57), widow and her son, James W (34) and grandson Ernest (5).
Mary Ann was not at home at the time of the 1911 Census and I am not sure where she was. Henry (42), Walter (14) and Ida (12) were living at 58 Queen Victoria Road in Burnley. Henry was a coal dealer, Walter a cotton weaver and Ida was at school. It is possible that Mary Ann was visiting the home of Mark Kendall (Widow aged 64) at 3 Cobden Street. There was a Mary Ann Magnall aged 35 with two children – Doris (8) and Evelyn (2). Mary Ann was recorded as married for 15 years with 4 children, the same details were on the census for Henry.
The 1939 Register shows that there was a Henry and Mary A Wigglesworth living at 58 Queen Victoria Street in Burnley. Henry was a cotton weaver born 18 December 1869. Mary A was recorded as performing unpaid domestic duties but her date of birth was shown as 4 October 1863 which doesn’t agree with the date of birth given elsewhere where Mary is often shown as being 6 years younger than Henry.
Mary Ann died in the summer of 1940.
